For decades, Link has been synonymous with ‘good health’, and we invite you to make one easy 5-minute New Year’s resolution that can put your mind at ease for 2025 or set you on a path to managing your health better this year.

We offer two basic health checks that will only take about 5 minutes. That’s 0,0005% of your time in 2025!

Why is this such an important New Year’s resolution to make?

High blood pressure or hypertension.

  • According to WHO (World Health Organization), if undiagnosed and left untreated, hypertension can lead to heart failure, stroke and kidney failure. High blood pressure can cause headaches, blurred vision, chest pain, and other symptoms.
  • The Cleveland Clinic warns that hypertension is often called a “silent killer” because you usually don’t have any symptoms.

You do not need an appointment with your Link pharmacist to have your blood pressure checked. If your screening is good, your pharmacist will provide you with some tips on how to keep it that way. If your blood pressure requires some attention, a visit to your doctor should be your next and immediate ‘good health’ New Year’s resolution.

High blood sugar levels or diabetes.

  • The CDC (Centre for Disease Control and Prevention) lists ‘eating more than usual’ as one cause of high blood sugar which many may relate to after the festive season!
  • However, symptoms of diabetes develop slowly over a period.
  • The Mayo Clinic lists the consequences of diabetes as cardiovascular disease, nerve damage, kidney damage or failure, damage to the retina’s blood vessels, foot problems such as skin infections, ulcerations, and in severe cases, amputation.

Similar to the blood pressure screening, your Link pharmacy will encourage you to keep your blood sugar levels at a good level and if your sugar levels are high, they’ll recommend that you visit your doctor for treatment.

You can have your blood sugar levels tested in the same visit that you have your blood pressure screened, and both will take less than 5 minutes in total. This is one New Year’s resolution that takes no effort to make and stick to!
